Preparing Beauty Professionals for Success with Pivot Point Curriculum

The beauty industry is constantly changing, making it important for beauty professionals to continue their education throughout their career. That’s why several times a year Crave Academies holds Pivot Point Advanced Academy educational events focused on empowering professionals through education.

Crave Beauty Academies in Wichita and St. Louis are honored to be the only Pivot Point Advanced Academies in North America. It was important for us to offer this unique curriculum to our students to elevate their education and set them up for success.

Pivot Point Advanced Academy

Pivot Point Advanced Academy topics are centered around teaching licensed professionals how to create trending looks for their salon guests. This hands-on educational system can help participants build upon foundational knowledge and improve their technical skills in hair and beauty.

In 2019, we had the pleasure of hosting classes focused on Pivot Point’s newly added Taper & Fades and Barbering classes with Pivot Point Field Educator, Corey Hawkins, and a “Salonability” Cut & Color workshop with Pivot Point Field Educator, Daniel Dunworth.

For our most recent class, we got an in-depth look at the “Salonability” curriculum around cutting, coloring, and styling trends for long hair. Teaching the course was Pivot Point Field Educator & Education Coordinator Jason Russell.

Jason is a licensed cosmetologist and educator that travels globally to teach the Pivot Point curriculum, providing access to educational materials that teach current trends and techniques. Jason’s work has been featured in Modern Salon Magazine and works from the Fluidity Collection were featured on the cover of Estetica Magazine!

What We Learned

During the two-day course, Jason taught class attendees how to recreate the looks from the Fluidity Collection – soft, feminine, trendy looks with movement and casualness.

Day One

On day one, the Crave Education Team learned how to create three looks from the collection, including a modern spin on the classic Hollywood Glam waves. Jason taught the class how to easily recreate the look in any setting – on stage at an industry event, for a client in the salon, or on models for an editorial shoot.

The technique he taught can be done in as little as 10-15 minutes. In the beauty industry, gorgeous looks that can be created quickly are a necessary tool for professionals. We hope the tips he taught can be used in future endeavors our students choose to take.

Later that afternoon, local stylists had the opportunity to join the Crave Education Team to gain hand- on experience creating affordable hair fillers, perfect for clients or models that have fine hair but desire looks that with body and texture.

As an added bonus, the class also received a tutorial on creating a 30 minute bridal look that many of Jason’s brides are asking for right now.

Day Two

Day two of the class was dedicated to teaching our cosmetology students how to recreate several looks from the Fluidity Collection.

“Jason never once repeated a look, he kept things fresh and fun for everyone,” said Crave Academy Talent Development Manager, Morgan Lampson-Waugh. “Jason mentioned how impressed he was with our students attention and dedication to putting their skills to work,” Morgan added.

We hope our students and education team enjoyed this unique learning experience and walked away with some helpful knowledge. We are so grateful to Jason for teaching us valuable techniques that students can use in their future careers to build a happy book of clients.
