The Cosmetologist’s Survival Guide for St. Louis Missouri

While many of the students at Crave Beauty Academy are from the local area, we also have many students that will travel from out of town or out of state to learn cosmetology with us! If the St. Louis area is new to you, we have some recommendations for places and things that we think you’ll love as a fan of cosmetology. If you’re new to the area, we hope you’ll grow to love your new home as much as we do!

Missouri Botanical Garden

One of the beautiful things about St. Louis is that it’s steeped in American history. The Missouri Botanical Garden was first opened to the public in 1859 by one of the early settlers, Henry Shaw. It is now one of the oldest botanical gardens in North America, and second largest in size only to the New York Botanical Garden. It has more than 6.6 million different plant specimens!

Plants and flowers are an age-old source of beauty. If you’re seeking inspiration or to simply experience something beautiful, the Missouri Botanical Garden gives you the chance to see countless flowers and plants that you would likely never see anywhere else!

Zip Lines and Treetop Adventures

If you’re looking for a little more outdoor adventure, the Adventure Valley canopy tour is a great way to enjoy some high-flying fun! The tour is made up of 10 different zip lines that are over a mile and a half in length. Zip line nine is a super zip that can send riders at speeds of up to 50 miles per hour! It’s a great way to experience the Missouri outdoors and create a memorable experience with family or friends.

The Go Ape! treetop adventures are very similar and not far from the St. Louis city center. It’s an outdoor adventure experience that takes you on a two to three hour journey through the treetops. There are rope ladders, bridges, suspended obstacles, and zip lines to enjoy! It can be physically challenging so it’s a great activity for fans of the outdoors!

The Gateway Arch

The Gateway Arch is the most iconic place to visit in St. Louis. It is the world’s largest arch, and the tallest man-made monument in the western hemisphere! It’s called The Gateway Arch because it was built to commemorate the westward expansion of the United States. The history behind the construction of the arch is fascinating and riddled with obstacles. After many difficulties, the visitors center was opened to the public in 1967. It’s a great place to go if you want to see an iconic landmark and a piece of American history all in one place! If you’re not enthusiastic about the outdoors in the Midwest, then this is a good activity because the arch has an elevator in it that takes you to the observatory at the top!

Local Beauty Events

There are also many amazing beauty events in St. Louis that you can enjoy! The Wedding Show is the largest bridal event in the Midwest, and showcases live demonstrations of bridal hair and makeup for anyone to see! If you have an interest in doing wedding hair or makeup then this is an event that you must attend! The event for January 2018 has already passed, but they often have multiple events per year that you can attend!

The Shades of Beauty Expo is an event that celebrates and showcases beauty through a cultural lens. Here’s what their website has to say about the event:

“The Shades of Beauty Expo was created for women of color who desire innovative, culturally-focused products and ideas for an enhanced (holistic) quality of life.”

It’s stunningly gorgeous and creative! If you’re interested in beauty from many different cultures around the world, this is your one-stop shop!

Of course you can’t talk about fashion events without mentioning Saint Louis Fashion Week! This is probably the largest local beauty industry event of the year! You can see all new styles, brands, and looks for yourself at the event! The website doesn’t seem to have any events scheduled for this year yet, but you can keep your eyes peeled in case they add new events!
