What Will I Learn in my Esthetics Program?
If you’re just getting started into the wonderful world of esthetics, there’s so much for you to learn and experience! It’s a great field full of potential for so many people, and there are many reasons that people love it. Often times it’s unclear what an esthetician learns or does, so we want to go over some of the most important things that esthetician students learn so that you can feel prepared!
Skin Analysis
Estheticians are not simply in the business of helping people to look beautiful, they help their clients be healthy! Esthetics students are expected to learn about skin anatomy so that they can identify skin problems and make recommendations to the clients. Estheticians can help improve skin health, but also know when it’s important to recommend the client visit a dermatologist. Estheticians typically use this training to identify and improve:
- Acne
- Oily Skin
- Dry Skin
- Wrinkly Skin
- Sunburns or Damaged Skin
- Whiteheads and Blackheads
Facials
Facials are a part of what estheticians regularly do for their clients. Because facials usually require repeat visits, a good esthetician keeps a book of clients that they continually meet with for continual improvement! Estheticians learn all of the ins and outs of the perfect facial from cleansing and toning skin to providing a relaxing face massage!
Hair Removal
Estheticians are pros at hair removal! They have the opportunity to learn many different hair removal methods so that they can help the client in whatever way works best for them. For example, some people are more prone to suffering skin damage from waxing, so an esthetician can decide use threading to remove the unwanted hair without causing any damage to the skin.
Body Treatments
There are many body treatments that estheticians learn. Body masks, scrubs, and aromatherapy are just a few of the many treatments that an esthetician student can learn. All of them are designed to help the client to be their healthiest self. All of these different tools and techniques are what make estheticians highly effective health and wellness professionals.
Business Skills
Estheticians are ultimately business people, whether they open their own practice or work at a salon. They generally have responsibilities to manage clientele and encourage and facilitate returning visits. Most esthetician programs will help a student become acquainted with many of the business basics that can help them to be very successful in maintaining a satisfied book of clients!
